Ella and The Blind Witch is a short horror film that I co-wrote and produced/directed in the UK in 2015.

Produced by Sarah Li at Fazed Pictures, and co-written by Rishi Vaja.

Sarah was always on top of her game, and is just an amazing person to work with. She kept Rish and I on track, and I miss working with both of them.

Film Synopsis: “An old bedtime fairytale turns out to be a bit more than young Tom and Alice can take. This fantasy horror film blends 1920's animation and live action that makes staying at Grandma's house a lot scarier than you could've imagined.”

The film features Phyllis McMahon (SHAUN OF THE DEAD), introducing Megan Mary Hart and Joseph Preedy.

We were lucky enough to work with the animator/artist Helena Houghton. As we have several sequences where we wanted to create this cut-out animation that you would see from the 20s, to set the themes of this being an old fable.

This cut-out animation would come to life in the film to also help cross over the idea of a fable being true.

To also help with the crossover to the live animation, we matched the lighting from the cutout animation to the kids’ room when it all goes to hell.

The film uses practical effects with the CGI added to help with the realism. The visual effects by Stanislav Shapetskiy, John Sellings, and Andrei Gheorghiu.

This was filmed on the Red Epic with Cooke S4 Primes.
